Got some bad news, Shanghai went back into lockdown. Good news is that it doesnt seem to be a full lockdown, it seems it is mainly for testing Covid purposes, people are able to go out if they can prove they had a test within the past 72 hours, only 5 districts out of 16 is in full lockdown until the testing period is over, so full duration episodes might be delayed, I just hope it wont affect Tunshi Xingkong (Swallowed Star)

Let's hope for the best and that the studio staff will be safe and sound.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

Lets hope indeed.
Also I bet this is just gonna be this short through the rest of the series since the way it's going cause of the covid issues and supply + demand.
Then will probably have to wait a couple of years for Douluo Dalu 2(Soul Land 2) but that's just guess.

Dase • 1 year ago

mhm, it would seem DD1 was supposed to run up to 250 episodes, while DD2 was being developed along side DD1 since Aug last year, but now... I highly doubt DD1 will making it to just up to 250 episodes, and with the studio trying to finish Tunshi Xingkong at the same time, DD2's development might be affected.
But, DD2 can always be given to another studio, just like Wudong Qiankun (the same studio that did Doupo Cangqiong) was given to another studio, and Shenyin Wangzuo which is written by the DD's author was given to another studio

Finally it happens!! Once again, the production studio trolled us last week with their preview. Looks like my concerns were unfounded. I’m glad they stick to the novel or rather it’s quite close to the original.

They omitted certain non-constructive or anti-climatic scenes. I think it’s actually better this way. In the novel:

- TS was given the rings one after another but it sure looks so much grander this way with both his martial spirits in full display.

- TS actually knocks XW out when she protested against her two buddies from sacrificing for TS. IMO that was very out of character for TS to do that even if his intention was actually to prevent XW from stopping him as he wanted to cut off his arm to remove the soul bone.

- Oh, there was a weird scene where Da Ming and Er Ming confessed that they love XW to TS before they died. I don’t know, I prefer it this way that the two beasties remain XW’s bros instead of secret admirers. It at least shows her growing up with a “family” instead of just friends who secretly like her.

- There was also the scene where TS told them after he chopped off his arm that he’s dying and his action of severing his arm is a promise between men that he will revive XW. Those words are rather chauvinistic if you ask me. It’s like in his mind, women would probably not do what he just did. But on the other hand, I wanted to see him say that he’s running out of time (dying) and that they should not worry about his commitment. On second thought maybe it’s better to drop them entirely because his action is enough to show it. **for those who didn’t read the novel: yes, he was really dying because he has not reached titled Douluo yet and forcibly removing a soul bone would kill him. But of course, he has the strength to remain alive for a short while until they give him the rings to regenerate.

Btw, if anyone is wondering why I always use the term Titled Douluo instead of Grand Soul Land Master is because when anyone reaches level 90, they can give themselves a title (Feng Hao in Chinese) like Sword Douluo, Hao Tian Douluo, Poison Douluo, etc. For those who have read the novel, did TS give himself a title? I don’t recall reading it. 🤔

As for next week, I’m sure you can guess that it’s the biggest affair since episode 134 (where XW sacrificed herself) for all the bunny and “SanWu” fans. But what I’m really looking forward to is actuallyThe resurrection of Ah Yin. Yes, TS is going to resurrect his mum as well! But that we’ll probably have to wait another 2 weeks.

douluo • 1 year ago

I concur, the changes here were advantageous. This ep was way better than last week lol.

Dase • 1 year ago

In chapter 320 they were discussing about the titles they would give themselves, Tang San was mentioned to have the Seagod title but it didnt say Sea God Douluo, I recall reading something about being called Thousand Hand Douluio but not sure where the source is from, even though it is in fandom, I dont trust it as there is no chapter source, it was supposed to be given by Master, but if I remember correctly he was only nicknamed Thousand Hands when he was young or something to do with his past life, Master definitely didnt give him Thousand Hands Douluo title, unless someone can provide the chapter source lol
If it came from the donghua or manhua then, I am afraid I must have missed it, since I dont watch the donghua multiple times, except for certain events, and I dont bother with the manhua, since it is a cut down version of the source novel lol

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

Yes I forgot about that part! Funny, in Chinese the two terms actually rhyme: Thousand Hands Asura (Xiuluo in Chinese) and Thousand Hands Douluo. He actually has affinity to Asura from the very beginning. How I wish the author should have just stuck to Asura God and expanded the story from there.

Dase • 1 year ago

Yah, not sure why he moved a few of the plot lines into different direction, might be cause oh he is going to Sea God Island for training, and since I trashed Slaughter City and it is so evil that isnt aligned with Tang San's nature, let's give him a pyramid by the emperor to start the Sea God plotline

But I want Tang San to still have the Asura Godhood, so let's make Xiao Wu the scabbard!

And let's not make xxx too evil so we can change it around when she confesses so we will feel sorry for her and forgive her for what she has done

Let's drop another girl in to fall for Tang San with a convoluted reasoning in one of her illusion trials

I can go on :P I know certain fans of the novel, I mean fanatic fans of the novel will roast me for what I wrote but if you drop the fanaticism for a moment and think logically you will side with me :P

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

Of course, we are definitely aligned over these plot holes! 😆

I’ve no doubt that the “true fans” of the novel would see the flawed logics.

Dase • 1 year ago

Have a read of chapter 319 and tell me what you think :)
Oscar is said to be the first food type douluo, but ummm isnt there a Food God already? the one who wants to pass the mantle to Oscar? If so wouldnt he be a food type douluo before he became a Food God? Unless he was some other douluo that had nothing to do with food and became a Food God, kind of like Tang San without a title and became Sea God but still I have to wonder lol

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

Coherence is not found in TJSS’s vocabulary. 😉

But then again, I’m sure he would argue that the Food God is from another planet because even Asura God was supposed to be the original God Kings of Douluo Divine Realm created by the Creation God. That is of course something he cooks up after finishing DD.

Dase • 1 year ago

Ahh yes that would probably be what TJSS would have done nevermind explaining to the readers that Douluo Continent isnt the only planet or location in the novel but it is a small part of TJSS' universe and let's explain it in another novel so it will make people want to read another novel in the hopes that what happened in the previous ones is explained, of course it rarely is, most often he just retconns it lol

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

LOL!! I think we’re surely one of his harshest critics. Actually no, in the Chinese forums, he’s known as Sanshui (for writing watery plots just to fulfil the word counts). 😆

Btw, I started watching and reading Perfect World. It’s not too bad actually. The author Chen Dong is much more creative and versatile than TJSS. One major difference I notice in terms of writing style is that, the former does not have that kind of pejorative and chauvinistic remarks on women compared to TJSS. Of course Chen Dong tends to deliberately make jokes about the MC’s penchant to have “fatties to warm the bed” but that was mostly written as part of the character of the MC unlike TjSS where I often see remarks like “men always have heavier responsibility and live more miserably compared to women”, etc.

Dase • 1 year ago

Wait until you get to around the half way point of the novel, then let me know if you still feel the same :) In fact do it after after 1500 chapters, and tell me if it is Chen Dong writing the novel :)
The donghua follows about 80% of the novel compared with Soul Land which is around 90% until the final arc. 10% in Perfect World are contents that are removed while the other 10% is something the studio made up to compensate the cut content to make the story coherent, like Fanren the changes are done very well but sometimes the flow is a bit off since you are left wondering why, the novel does explains it a lot better, so I would suggest reading the novel before you watch the specific episode. It might be due to the lockdown as well since the studio was affected by it, although not as much as Soul Land

TJSS is good at writing a lot of novels, and appealing to readers with the good nature hero and story, writing safe novels
Chen Dong is more funnier, and he is a lot more braver than TSJJ and so he experiments a bit with his style I didnt like his endings but then again a lot of novelist fails when it comes to ending the novel properly

I Eat Tomato (Swallowed Star, Stellar Transformation and Snow Eagle Lord) writes like a high school grader but his story is readable
Heavenly Silkworm Potato, can be funny but forgets certain plot devices and characters as the story progresses
Wang Yu, a classic styled writer, in line with some of the best Wu Xia novelist, although in the world we live now, it is often deemed as boring

These are my opinions, so people might not agree with it lol

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

“ In fact do it after after 1500 chapters,..”

Please don’t tell me that the MCdumps all his fatties? I just finished around 1000 chapters now (of course skimming through a lot of them) and I noticed Chen Dong starts to get repetitive with his “sadistic treatments” on his MC. It’s the same old shite withthe MC going through the cruelest tribulations imaginable to advance and then some greenhouse muppets overtake him out of nowhere, throwing snide remarks and try to kill him, yada, yada, yada.. Don’t tell me the ending is worse than DD?

Dase • 1 year ago

Nah he never dumps his wives rather, the author makes it hard for him to be with his wives as Shi Hao goes about gallivanting around the world, or that his wives are in another place, kidnapped or staying in Stone Village waiting for him to return
Looks like you are almost at there :) the novel takes a darker tone and yeah the usual trials by villains targeting him along with let's make more enemies becomes monotonous
And yes the ending is one of the worse endings out of all the novels I have read, Soul Land at least does some tidying up and the ending is acceptable even with some questions still unanswered, leaving you expecting the second novel to continue and answer them, Perfect World is the same, but you have more questions and a lot of loose end isnt neatly tidied up, it is left very very open for interpretation

for the person who thinks this is the best novel in Chinese history, you need help, go seek a counselor, a bad ending doesnt make a novel good, a bad ending that ends up with a wife aging and without her knowing her son is dead and the husband not telling her what happened to their son and going off with another wife to look for ways to resurrect people he loves doesnt make it right, a bad ending where everyone almost dies is still a bad ending

Zodiac • 1 year ago

You really don't like that Chen Dong fan do you? lmao

People have different opinions, interests, likes and dislikes. Targeting people who disagrees with him and taking parts of what I wrote out of context and trying to make his opinion right seems like someone in need of attention or acknowledgement, I simply dont have the time to spend one people like that, we all have enough real life issues to deal with, without seeing that online

Shi Hao lost his virginity when he was raped by Qing Yi, the clone of Yue Chan, feeling that he was used unfairly he then returns the rape to Qing Yi after Yue Chan leaves Qing Yi's body (she was trying to merge with her). Rabbit, friend of Shi Hao thought with all the grunting and moaning, they were practicing vigorously as the place was also trembling. If you skimmed the chapters you might want to revisit chapter 917

Huo Ling'Er, is the first girl he actually proposed to, but she disappears after the province she lived in were taken by an enemy, she only returns after a long time and towards the end of the novel, she is also the only one that accompanies him to find ways of resurrecting Shi Hao's loved ones and friends
Yun Xi, is his first and true Dao Companion, she is also the only one that bears him a child, she grows old as the Law of Cultivation disappears from the realms, but Shi Hao suspends Stone Village in time, to find a way to save them, towards the end of the novel, Shi Hao releases the suspension. She was not mentioned by name, but it is implied she was released as well, she is unaware of her son's death. Shi Hao doesnt have the heart to tell her.

So you can see the ENDING SUCKS ROTTEN EGGS, MAY CHEN DONG GROWS GOLF BALL SIZED BLISTERS ON HIS BUM!!

Dase • 1 year ago

lol I broke up my spoilers into two, so you can have a look at the bottom part lol

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

Damn it, I wrote a long reply to your spoilers and when I switched to another app, it's all gone.

I'll try to cut it short. What I wanted to say is that PW does get very draggy, repetitive and even frustrating to read towards the end. I'm currently at chapter 1900+ and based on your spoilers I'm actually getting more and more apprehensive.

But I have to say, overall I still like the story very much. It has so much feels to it compared to DD. I'd even say it contains some of the most stirring and compelling arcs among the Chinese wuxia novels that I have read. Arcs like:
- Shi Hou dying from a curse after defeating 7 deities and he rushes to see his brother but was stopped by some morons at the gate. The entire arc is so heart-rending except that his death is overly drawn-out.

- Or when Shi Hou walks out to the altar surrendering himself to the enemy at the Imperial Pass. That was utterly provoking.

Then there are phrases like "there's a person waiting at the mulberry tree", just tugs at the heartstring. Of course, there're also quite some well-written and absolutely hilarious characters. Yes, the interaction between divine striking stone, the lunar rabbit and Shi Hou is just comedy gold. But at the same time, it is also a rather distressing hint that Shi Hou is mostly alone and his best friend is a stone.

Anyway, I appreciate your spoilers, and I'll try to brace myself for the terrible ending. Sigh, it's such a pity that most Chinese wuxia novels always end so badly.

Dase • 1 year ago

Overall I feel that Chen Dong's story are more profound than TJSS, even though we have the usual villain cliches. For a feel good story, DD, for a compelling story PW. And yes like most Chinese webnovelists they do tend to fluff the story and repeat the same plot devices over and over again lol
Try to think of it as a FF15 ending :) (trying to convince myself it is a good story with a bad ending)
I havent read the rest of the novels Chen Dong wrote, it is said that PW forms a part of a trilogy, but each novel has a new main character with very rare and little references to each of the main characters, sometimes the references are implied, and the Three Golden Coffins plays a significant role, even though it doesnt seem so.
It's just my personal opinion, I just didnt like the ending, so in my books, it isnt a good novel :P but it does have a good story up to the ending. I watched a drama series once and there was a saying, Just because the ending isnt what you expect it doesnt mean it is a bad novel, a good novel is still a good novel regardless of the expectation of the ending. I am trying hard to think of it that way but when I see how Yun Xi is treated... sigh..

Yeah I like Lunar rabbit the vegetarian but when drunk... lol

I have the same problem when typing long posts, usually Control Z might sometimes recover it, otherwise I just type in Notepad, or just post my comments and edit it then post then edit lol

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

That was a very deep and profound review and thoughts from you, almost like when I’m reading some serious lines from Chen Dong. 😉

I’m finally finished with PW (selective chapters only). Went to Wuxiaworld and read up the comments of each chapter before deciding if it’s worth my time. But I did read the last 100 chapters meticulously and it was like a 360 degree pendulum ride that you really look forward to in the beginning and then regretted afterwards but deep inside you can’t deny the thrill and enjoyment. It left me with all kinds of emotions and a bit muddle-headed.🤯 And somehow it got quite dusty up there. Must have been a windy day blowing some dust up.

As for my review, I think Chen Dong did tie up the major loose ends unlike TJSS in DD. IMO, the last 3 chapters of DD was a train wreck but with PW, it was just a terribly exhausting and frustrating ride that left you tired and disappointed because you expected more. But you still somehow enjoyed it because the scenery is tolerable.

Just like you said, bad ending does not equate bad novel. I still like DD a lot despite its shitty ending, but it’s truly not on the same level as PW, one is climbing a hill and the other a mountain. Although the peaks are not as high, the pits are not as deep as well. PW has quite some bottomless pits.

Nevertheless I do agree with you on Yun Xi’s ending though. That was just brutal! But then again, Shi Hou’s true love has always been the fire princess. Although she’s the least mentioned FL, the author manages to build up their unwavering love and devotion quite nicely. I was actually more annoyed by Shi Hou’s passiveness towards his son, or should I say the author’s complete disregard for that character. He is nothing more than a plot device for the MC. Bloody hell, he didn’t even get a proper name! I was only somewhat appeased after reading the author’s afterword. Chen Dong acknowledged that little Stone was indeed resurrected in the end.

So that’s my afterthought of PW. I’m seriously having a headache now after binge-reading the whole night. Gotta recover my Dao!

Dase • 1 year ago

Yeah I have expected more details instead of a few paragraphs to end the story, which is why I felt there were loose ends, like Like what will happen to Yue Chan, I need more details lol, What about the Fox Witch? It was kind of like DD where the ending was quickly summed up and I am like ok do I need to read the next book to find out? and yeah imagine my disappointment when it wasnt to be
Remember Shi Hao isnt known for his naming qualities, Snot Baby, Fur Ball, Little White, Little Red etc lol I believe his son is called Little Stone then again I dont blame Shi Hao, it is more of Chen Dong's style, the Witch never had a name, and the two grandpas - Coin Grandpa and Bird Grandpa in the Void God Realm didnt have any name either, not to mention plenty more others.
Chen Dong probably got a huge feedback or should I say backlash for him to write that in the afterword lol, I didnt read it since I was totally upset about Yun Xi and by the time I finished the last page of the novel I was furious lol.
One thing about Chen Dong though he is very open and accessible to readers of his novels, and often asks what people think, and he will take those opinions and adjust the story depending if they fit into his story outline
I did enjoy the beginning of the novel, and the middle but towards the end, I was weigh down with the repetitiveness and how the story became darker and had a more serious tone
Anyway rest easy lol I know how it felt when I finished it, I binged read it as well

OfficialDrixMalone • 1 year ago

I think they meant "brotherly" love, I guess I can see how you'd perceive it that way, but I wonder why you thought secret admirers instead family...

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

In the novel, they specifically confessed to TS that both of them have loved XW romantically for a long time. They didn’t tell her because they didn’t want to affect their brotherly relationship (between themselves: Da Ming & Er Ming). Neither of them wants the other party to leave because of love rivalry. You can see the parallel between them and the “Golden Triangle” (Xiaogang, Erlong and Flanders). Oh, and also TS’s parents and his uncle. I don’t know why the author just loves this kind of love triangle cliches.

OfficialDrixMalone • 1 year ago

Oh wow, thanks for the info, I'm glad they kept that shii out honestly. Could you IMAGINE either of the brothers trying to have a sexual relationship let alone a romantic one her human form lmao?!

That reminds me of the time I saw in "Smallville" Superman finally getting to bang his girlfriend when she gained superpowers like him and the house shook and more. He said usually they couldn't because he had to be careful about his speed and powerful thrusts, since he could kill her if he lost control even for a second, imagine just his sperm could probably kill her, either mangle her internal organs and/or impaling a hole through her body out her head (or picture a grenade and a soldier). I know you probably didn't want to read that but hey, that's A LOT more tame than what the Ming brothers would do to XW's human body, shii even worse if she was still a rabbit/bunny 😱!! Like a dwarf staring at a 10 inch anaconda 😩😬🙈 aha.

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

LMAO with your Superman analogy! 🤣🤣 But that’s a good one. Here in Soul Land, it’s just multiplied by a factor of 100? 😆

Lol I guess by becoming TS’s soul rings they all get to smash XW eventually right?

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

Ahahaha I was really trying to restrain myself from being too explicit, but you still got it. 😆

Each of them gives TS one soul bone: one on the right arm and one on the left. From what we know about XW’s soul ring and soul bone, they seem to be sentient! LOL! 😉

I know right? I was hoping with the easing of lockdown then removal the episodes would return to normal, then we had Tunshi Xingkong released by the same studio which in my opinion is a good indication, then 11 days later, tada surprise back to lockdown, even though it might not be a full lockdown

And they posted a new picture of Xiao Wu in a wedding veil kissing Tang San too... sheesh

CafeJay • 1 year ago

One of the most emotional episodes to date. Almost as sad as Xiao Wu's sacrifice.

OfficialDrixMalone • 1 year ago

I'm kind of pissed, TS is supposed to be very adept poison user, so why in the heck didn't he try to at least impede its circulation in DaMing & ErMing's bodies?! Makes no sense, instead, he just crippled himself by amputating his arm smh. Just to fulfill his "promise" to them before they die instead of trying to find a better solution which would be the desirable option his future wife would want. Isn't he supposed to be a truly talented and gifted genius, so he couldn't think anything else and they expect me to believe that?! A proficient problem solver, the solver of problems and capable of turning the impossible into possible, the unattainable attainable, reach the unreachable; we seen this man pull off and achieve unrealistic godly feats that his OP titled douluo father and damn near demigod grandfather couldn't and accomplish divine goals lmao!!

I don't want to sound insensitive but the WRITING in this episode was terribly lousy, it's no exaggeration when I say the writing has been subpar, well below average. So maybe the lockdown has been affecting them more than I thought because the quality of each episode is suffering more and more, to the point of being unbearable. Which is unfortunate, honestly I'd rather them halt production until everyone is better and at least 90%+ mentally and physically where they'd be able to focus on producing tolerable and acceptable work. I'm not trying to be ungrateful but I'm disappointed and displeased with them not carefully producing quality work, wish they'd keep the integrity of the series intact instead of ruining all their hard work, effort and time they put in for years.

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

You have a point. Actually in the novel, he did frantically try to slow down their poison by giving them his soul power and his special “dragon leaves” or something like that. The production studio cut that out and change that to XW instead (the giving power part). They have been taking away lots of credits from TS recently — things or decisions that he would usually make as a tactical genius or poison master.

Maybe they thought by saying their poison has already corrupted their heart and soul would be enough for the viewers to understand that they are beyond rescue. He has never even thought of inheriting their rings.

Dase • 1 year ago

I believe it is also due to Bibi Dong is at a much higher level than Tang San, remember even Tang San couldnt get rid of the poison that affected the old Tiandou emperor much less a poison from a Rakhasa God successor and the fact that the two spirit beasts were almost at the end of their life, they were severely injured and with those kinds of injuries it is hard to heal

Added to the fact that they love Xiao Wu and wanted her to revive, giving their lives for Tang San to help her revival would definitely be something they would do, although it wasnt in the novel, TJSS why you rush the end huh? WHY????? Gimmie the IP rights to your novel I will do a whole rewrite!

Yeah the change in content is really getting annoying now

Youtube Addict • 1 year ago

Tell me about it! It’s so frustrating especially when you consider the fact that most of his novels are at least 800 chapters or more.

What a pity! Dase, please save the finale for us! 🙏 You don’t need to have the IP rights, just tell the studio to hire you as their scriptwriter! It will go down in history as the most popular and well-written Chinese anime ever!
